Waking from the Primordial Dream

The hopes and dreams of Atlantis have captured the imaginations of seekers after ancient wisdom and intrigued historians for a score of centuries. With the availability of the world’s libraries, New Age and metaphysical online bookstore aficionados have at their disposal a vast array of works addressing the myth of Atlantis, both from a scholarly perspective and fantasy and science fiction novels.

There are more thoughts regarding what the nature of this fantastic island was like and where it was located and how the remnants can be recovered than practically any other Greek myth. Indeed, the topic of a genius race which predated our earliest records has engaged the imagination of generations precisely for the reason that it rings so true to the modern mind.

New Age icon Edgar Cayce wrote of Atlantis as a large land mass, about the scale of Australia. As it is told in the seerĂs complete vision, the people of Atlantis were gifted with supernatural psionic abilities and mechanisms, and were the progenitors of the oddly congruent solar-worshiping cultures of the founders of Western Civilization and the Empires of native America. The subject is identified by many writers with past lives and reincarnation stories and the paranormal, and is frequently alluded to in writings about New Age apocalypse predictions and the Mayan Calendar prophecy of world changes on December 21, 2012.

The Greek philosopher Plato first began to write of a forgotten Paradise, called Atlantis, three centuries before the murder of Caesar. He believed the undersea continent lay “beyond the pillars of Hercules” and met a fateful end more than one hundred centuries before his time.

Hypotheses on the location of Atlantis range from the Pacific Ocean to the Western Atlantic, although, of course the most popular possibilities that are European islands, especially the Azores and Malta.

The mystery may always remain concerning where the Island lay, but we’d be foolish to doubt: human kind has achieved high levels of advancement in the distant past and the process of expansion and catastrophe, maybe over and again, long before the “Creation” of Genesis.
