How long has it been since there were cattle loose on the streets of Mumbai, Calcutta, or Chennai?

I READ IN A BOOK THAT IT WASN’T LONG AGO THAT PEOPLE MOVING IN FROM THE RURAL AREAS WOULD BRING ALL KINDS OF ANIMALS INTO THE CITY. IS THAT SORT OF FROWNED UPON NOW?

Also as nearby villages close to city and over a course of time they became a part of city and people continue with keep cattle’s for milk and dairy necessity. Leaving rooming cattle into city makes a easy way to feed them. I think Bangalore also no exemption for this.
Still I am remember in my hometown there a place where municipal authorities keep all stray animal at one place and owner of that animal has to pay penalty and get them released. I don’t know such system exist in Bangalore.
