Should I put duck tape on chicken perch

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

The wood has been arsenic treated, so should I put duck tape on it?

Ductape won’t work, the chickens would peel it off and don’t use arsenic treated wood or any sort of treated wood. Arsenic is a deadly poison and other treated woods might also have negative effects. Use some sticks or branches that you can find in a local park or your backyard. (Make sure that they haven’t been sprayed or contain stuff that is bad for chickens)

Will a garra pingi pingi survive in a 29 gallon tank they say they need 30 but could i without killing it

i need 1 for cleaning and my tank is a mess

Well, they are cold water fish, so if you have a cold water tank then yes. If your tank is tropical, you could get a bristlenose pleco or a few otocincluses!

——

depending on how many fishes you already have in your tank you might be able to have one. 29 and 30 gallon is almost the same size, if you only have a few small fishes you should be able to have one without any problem.

Me and my friend found three orphaned duck eggs…what do we do????

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

we are guessing each of their moms were either hit by trucks or abandoned them…each were found alone…. we dont no how old they are, or wen they will hatch, we hav them in front of a heater in a incupator but they get a lil to hot…we tried the water test and they all moved. one egg has several holes in it and cracks…what do we do?? is it about to come out?? another is kinda small, and the third is pretty big….

Chances are that if the eggs are already moving and if they are cracked the ducks are already developed and will come out without the need of an incubator so just do your best to keep them warm and away from danger and in the morning you can call your local ASPCA and turn them in if you can keep them. If you do decide to keep them you can go to a feed store and buy baby duck or chick formula and feed it to them and like baby chicks they will eat alone without the need of the mom so those are your choices. Either way baby birds usually don’t eat until 8 hours after hatching.

——

Take it to a vet or the animal shelter if you can’t put them back where you found them…

You should not pick eggs up unless it’s to put them back in their nests, and even then you should minimize your contact.

When I found a bird egg that fell out of its nest, I used a leaf to put it back. It hatched and then fell out of the nest as a baby, and I did the same thing. I was happy to see it actually lived and flew away just a week ago.

You can try to take it to a vet that deals with birds regularly, but they will likely tell you to try to return it where you found it. It’s very hard to raise wild birds from eggs, especially if not prepared.

Veterinary question: feline leukemia/fiv test and feline leukemia vaccine?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

The animal hospital i go to says they need to test cats for feline leukemia and can do a combo test testing for leukemia and feline fiv. then they can give the feline leukemia vaccine once negative. however on some cats they just give the feline leukemia vaccine without the test so i am confused. can someone explain this to me?

We recommend that all cats get tested for FIV/FeLV prior to being vaccinated with ANYTHING. For outdoor cats we also recommend testing every other year, even if vaccinated for FeLV. It is important to know this status because it can change the way the animal develops immunity.

Some of the clients at the animal hospital may decline the test, against the medical advice of the vet, and still opt for the vaccine. It is not like heartworm disease where if a dog is positive, starting HWP may kill it.

We do not give the FIV vaccine at our clinic because it cross reacts with the test for the disease and if the cat gets tested at a later date, someone might think it is positive rather than a false positive from a vaccine cross reaction.

———

A vet tech… also require to test felv/fiv before vaccintaing against it. if the cat was tested when it was a kitten then they will not need to be tested again, so that why they probably didnt test some of them. you really only need the felv vaccine if the cat goes outiside…

What kind of fish should i get?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

1.      shave it.

2.      I know this isn’t a fish, but you should consider getting African mini-frogs. They are fun to watch and play well with other fish.

3.      Maybe 3 or 4 African cichlids. 20 is too small for Dempseys and large cichlids.

4.      Damzels

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol

Why is my 8 year old cat?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
  1. He is marking his territory. Or take him to the vet just to make sure. But I’m pretty sure he is just marking his territory
  2. Well it COULD be just an aging cat thing, however urinary problems are common with male cats. He could have a bladder infection, or worse- kidney or bladder stones. I lost a male cat to bladder stones. Peeing around the house was the first sign of any problem, and by then it was too late. Some other health problems like diabetes and tumors can cause this too. If I were you, I’d take him to the vet right away and make sure he’s alright.
  3. some one has come inside your house with another cat scent on their shoes, cats have a good nose, so your cat smells it and trys to out spray it with it’s pee!!Try cleaning some areas with citiral oil.
  4. I won’t waste time with a lengthy answer, but.. this site here:
    http://www.hdw-inc.com/litterbox.htm
Has plenty of information on your problem, just scroll down a little to “URINE MARKING AND SPRAYING” and read up on that.
  5. Inappropriate elimination is often a symptom of urinary tract infection. The cat begins to associate the pain he experiences while peeing with the litter box, so goes elsewhere. He might also be trying to get your attention.

So your first step is to have the cat evaluated by a veterinarian. If you notice he is straining a lot but not producing much (may seem constipated), then it is urgent enough to find an emergency vet after hours. Male cats sometimes get blocked up, and then it is only a matter of hours before it is too late. If he is not completely blocked up, then it can wait until morning - but make sure to get him in to see the vet tomorrow.

Here is a link to a good article on how to solve litter box problems, in case it’s not a medical issue http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pe…

  6. He is marking his territory.
  7. is he spraying or urinating?

the first thing that comes to my mind, especially with an older cat is kidney issues or diabetes. it could also be a urinary tract infection. if this is a new thing for him to do, a trip to the vets is a good idea. if its not a medical issue they can advise you on what to do for behavior problems.

how are is appetite and water intake?

What can I do for my local SPCA?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

You can organize a pet food drive (ask what kind they feed before doing this, and specifically request that kind).

You can offer to sponsor an animal by donating a small amount of money each month.

Spread the word about adoption vs. buying from breeders.

Raffle off something pet-related and donate the proceeds to them.

Ask everyone you know for “Christmas presents” for the shelter.

Encourage people to donate, perhaps instead of buying you one present they intended to, they could donate the cost to the shelter.

Visit the director and offer to help with paperwork, adoption screenings, addressing envelopes, or whatever else needs to be done.

Report animal cruelty and neglect immediately instead of letting the problem worsen, and encourage others to do the same.

Ask what supplies they need and then get together with your class or coworkers to send a box full of their preferred type of toys/food dishes/etc.

Get together a group to bring the office workers hot chocolate and sing them carols during a lull between visitors. Hand out Christmas cards with animal pictures that say something like ‘You’re the real Santa Paws’, etc.

Adopt a pet if you can.

How often is there a general election in Britain?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

General elections are held at least every five years. However not all Parliaments run for the whole five years, and a general election may be held before this period is up. In the event of a government having a small majority the election may well take place much earlier. For example, the general election of February 1974 resulted in a minority Labour government. The then Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, therefore called another election in October 1974, which resulted in Labour increasing its representation to just above 50% of the number of seats. Despite its small overall majority, the Labour government then remained in power for four-and-a-half years, finally calling an election in May 1979.

The last General Election was held on 5 May 2005.

In between general elections, by-elections are held as necessary to elect a new Member of Parliament to an individual constituency.
