Finding Unparalleled Recreation in Utah

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Everybody knows that the state of Utah is one big basin. The lakes and streams that flow all around it are the perfect spots for lots of water activities. Utah recreation focuses on white water rafting, fishing, scenic drives, houseboat rentals, etc. At the center of all these recreations is the Flaming Gorge.

The Flaming Gorge is a haven for fishing addicts (especially those who love trout). In here, anglers are permitted to take home six lake trout (provided they catch as many!). This reservoir is the basin for the waters of Green river and is perfectly safe for boating. Land-based activities that can be done here are camping, hiking and biking. Established in October 1968, it has long since topped the list of places to visit in Utah.

Aside from the water-centered activities of Utah recreation, there are also skiing activities that more active vacationers can participate in. There are also mountain ranges and national parks to drag a trek partner to. At the end of all these tiring activities, it would always be nice to go and rest to a Green River hotel such as the Oasis Motel, Super 8 Motorists’ Hotel, or Mancos Rose Motel, to name a few. A Green River hotel is known for its hospitality. Could it have something to do that the state is populated mainly by Mormons? Perhaps.

I’m doing my first triathlon this weekend. Any good pointers?

Friday, June 13th, 2008

First of all, congrats on deciding to take up triathlons! Some advice I have gathered from my parents last few years of triathlon competition (I’ve never done one since I am only 15):

Be sure to make a list the day before the race of everything that you will need for pre-race (like a jacket and pants if it starts early), during the race (obvious things like a bike, water bottles, watch, swim cap, wetsuit if you have one, helmet, biking and running shoes, etc., as well as stuff like food you can carry in the back pockets on your bike jersey to eat on the road and dry socks for after the swim), post-race (like food, sports drinks and water, and dry clothes), and during transitions (such as a bucket and towel to wash your feet after the swim, marker so you can find your things, small stool for changing shoes if you want, and maybe an encouraging sign or note to yourself, lol). This will help take away some of the stress of race day, and also allow you to add more items to the list as you remember them.

During the race, remember hydration and nutrition, especially if it is a longer tri. The bike leg is the most important in terms of food and water, so don’t neglect it, and do some quick research to find out what to pack for the ride (if nothing else, some packets of energy goo, such as Gu or Hammer brand, and energy bars, such as Clif brand, as long as you try them before the race to ensure that you can stomach them). Don’t forget to drink plenty of water for 1-2 days before and after the race to stay hydrated, and eat high-carb meals like pasta and plenty of bananas to avoid muscle cramps the day before the race.

Practice your transitions a few times, even if you feel weird doing it out of the context of the race. It will help immensely by giving you confidence that you can do it with speed and relative ease!

Other than that, have a great race and good luck! Enjoy it, and whenever you feel ready to stop, think of the great feeling of accomplishment (not to mention - most likely - a free massage and free food after the race!) you will have when you finish. Your first tri should be more about the experience and the completion than the competition, so enjoy it. Hope your training will pay off! =)

What ride in disneyland has had the most crashes?? What year did this happen and how bad was the crash? Please answer!! Thx! : )

— Big Thunder Mountain starting in 2003 (1 fatal), 2004 and another one in 2004. Then, Matterhorn in 64 and 84 (2 fatal; their own fault not the parks and oddly for the same thing). Next is Roger Rabbit; twice in 2000.

How long does the life of a PSP fully charged last?

Thursday, November 29th, 2007
  1. idk i dont play those things
  2. 6 hours i think maximum
  3. go over to system settings and then go to battery, it will tell you, but i think its usualy like 6 hours not sure
  4. uhhh….24??Lol.. i’m not sure…
  5. if you use it for about an hour each day for 3 days it should be dead on the 3rd day, i have one and i use it for an hour mostly, but i don’t know longer than that, but i do know that the battery sucks lol.
  6. depends on what battery u get
u can buy a battry with good stamina in best buy and circut city
it will give u 5 more hours than the regular batery
    Normal = 5
Buy new battery with good stamina = 12 - 15 hours

depends on what use u give to ur PSP
playing with a UMD disc would make the PSP run out fo battery fast since the disc reader is working
but if u just use it ti listen to music watch videos and all of that or thing that dont involve games ur battery would last longer

Is a buffalo head nickel still valuable if you cant see the year on it because it’s so worn out?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
  1. It is probably still worth at least 5 cents.
  2. Sorry :-( I don’t think so, and to worth more than a quarter, it would have be in perfect condition.
There are a lot of them still out there, so they aren’t yet that valuable…except for a few years , I cant think of exactly which ones right now and still they are not worth that much, if in good condition around $3.50
  3. The value is based on the date being there! even if just the last 2 numbers are all thats left there, it has value above 5 cents.
  4. Yes it is don’t spend it just keep it .
  5. Not really

1. Can anyone give me an idea of some fun arts and crafts for kindergardners ages?? PLEASE help son is bored?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Build paper garlands by cutting long strips of construction or other paper, coloring them, and taping the ends in a circle. You can build a chain to decorate the house or his room, or wherever he wants.

My daughter and I also love the games on Kindersite (http://www.kindersite.org/directory/dire… and it’s designed by teachers to be fun and educational.

If it’s a hyperactivity emergency, a good way to calm little ones down is to put on some fun, energetic music, and tell them to shake out their sillies. Give him directions on what to do (”shake your sillies out your fingers; wiggle them out your left leg, etc.”) and turn it into a fun dancing game for him by occasionally yelling “freeze!”

This one’s great, because you don’t necessarily have to do it too, you just have to be able to tell him directions every so often, and keep him interested by changing it up.

To experienced quilters — what are the 10 most essential tools a beginner needs (besides sewing machine)?

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Tools you will need:

1) Rotary Cutter
2) Olfa Mat (or any other self-healing mat) 18″ x 24″ is a good size
3) Ruler- (Omnigrid is great) a 6″ x 12″ ruler is good
4) A good pair of fabric scissors to use only for cutting fabric. I use Fiskars
5) A good iron (for pressing when you are piecing)
6) Pins. Choose long, thin, sharp (dressmaker’s) pins for piecing and appliqueing. They should also be rustproof.
7) Needles - sharps and betweens for quilting and applique
8) Quilt frame (for hand quilting)
9) Thread. Get the best you can find. For your stash, I recommend: white, tan, or medium gray cotton or cotton-covered polyester sewing thread. Polyester threads can cut cotton fibers.
Natural or off-white cotton or cotton-covered polyester quilting thread to use for hand quilting. Clear, transparent, nylon thread for machine quilting. The thread should be thin and soft, not stiff and wiry like fishing line.
10) A 1/4 foot for your sewing machine. This makes is so much easier to do 1/4 inch seems.

Books: Quilter’s Complete Guide my Marianne Fons and Liz Porter 1993 Oxmoor House, Inc.

Quick and Easy Quiltmaking: 26 projects featuring speedy cutting and piecing methods by Mary Hickey, et. al. That Patchwork Place c. 1992

The Quilter’s Ultimate Visual Guide from A to Z - Hundreds of Tips and Techniques fro Successful Quiltmaking by Ellen Pahl

Also- any books by Alex Anderson. She has a show on HGTV (or used ) called Simply Quilts. She has published books on hand quilting, piecing, etc. She is considered an expert in her field and her books are filled with easy to do projects and easy to understand instructions.

I highly recommend going to quilting classes at a local quilt shop or at a place like JoAnn’s. The teachers know what they are doing and will be happy to show you how to do it the right way. I stated off on my own and ran into problems and became very discouraged. I started taking classes and my skill levels increased and I have completed many nice quilt projects since then.
