Atwal signs off tied 58th at Xerox Classic

Arjun Atwal played his worst golf of the week — turning in a seven-over 77 in the final round — to sign off a disappointing tied 58th in the Nationwide Tour’s Xerox Classic here.

The Orlando-based golfer ended his campaign with a total of seven-over 287 after stumbling to seven bogeys and a double bogey against a couple of birdies on the final day.

The former Asian Tour number one was in trouble from the very start as he opened with a bogey on the first before dropping three more shots on the fourth, sixth and eighth.

There were a couple of birdies sandwiched in between but they were not enough to wipe out the deficit as he made the turn two-over.

If the front nine was bad, the back nine turned out to be worse for Atwal as he hit a double bogey on the 13th before adding to his misery with three bogeys between the 14th and 18th holes to round off his worst day in the tournament.

Overnight leader, Brendon De Jonge of Zimbabwe clinched the title by four strokes after carding a 69 in the final round which took his total to 13-under 267.

Australian Jarrod Lyle finished second after a final round of 69.
